NigeriaSONCAPCertification
The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is the Nigerian agency responsible for establishing and enforcing quality standards for imported goods and domestically manufactured products. To ensure that regulated products meet the country's approved technical standards or other standards, and to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe or substandard products, the Nigerian Standard Organization has decided to implement a mandatory pre-shipment conformity assessment program (referred to as SONCAP) for regulated products exported to the country.
Following years of implementation, Nigeria's SONCAP will introduce new policies effective April 1, 2013, representing significant changes from previous versions. Exporters will no longer apply for SONCAP with each shipment, instead applying for a COC. Upon receiving the COC, exporters provide it to importers to apply for an SC. The SC is directly applied for by importers at the local SONCAP office. Additionally, on-site sampling tests, inspections, and supervision of loading are required based on the product's risk category.
