    Ultrasonic Partial Discharge Detection

    2024-03-19

    Product Overview

Partial discharge phenomena in electrical equipment can have varying degrees of impact on both the equipment itself and the power grid, with severe cases even leading to equipment failure and grid collapse. Therefore, early detection of partial discharge in electrical equipment is crucial for accurately understanding the equipment's operating condition, promptly eliminating potential faults, and preventing equipment failures from escalating. This plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of both the equipment and the power grid. There are numerous methods for detecting partial discharge in electrical equipment, such as: pulse current method,DGAFrench and Ultrasonic Inspection MethodsRIVUltrasound testing, optical measurement, radio frequency detection, and chemical methods are among the various detection techniques available. Each has its strengths, but ultrasound testing is particularly straightforward and user-friendly, making it ideal for routine equipment inspections and real-time monitoring of electrical equipment operation. Common electrical equipment partial discharge faults typically include corona, arc, and arcing. Corona and early stages of arcing do not generate heat and can be masked by high environmental temperatures, making them undetectable with standard infrared thermography. However, they do produce ultrasonic signals, which can be detected remotely using an ultrasonic partial discharge scanner. Arcs and severe arcing generate both ultrasonic signals and high heat, allowing for testing using both infrared and ultrasonic methods. But when partial discharge occurs internally within the equipment, infrared detection is ineffective. An ultrasonic partial discharge scanner can be used to inspect the surface or joints of electrical equipment.

The Ultrasonic Partial Discharge Survey Instrument is a detection device that diagnoses potential faults in power lines by collecting abnormal ultrasonic signals and analyzing them with software. This device can identify the location and type of potential faults without interrupting power supply. After the device collects abnormal ultrasonic signals through ultrasonic detectors (ultrasonic sensors), it transmits them to the main unit, where the built-in analysis software accurately diagnoses the type and severity of the potential faults, converting them into audible sound signals and waveforms for output. This assists inspection personnel in accurately identifying potential line faults, preventing catastrophic failures, avoiding unnecessary power outages, enhancing power supply reliability, and improving the efficiency and reducing the labor intensity of inspection personnel.
