Heat treatment is the process of altering the internal structure and organization of metals or alloys in their solid state through operations such as heating, holding, and cooling, thereby enhancing and improving their comprehensive properties (such as toughness, wear resistance, thermal resistance, corrosion resistance, conductivity, and workability, etc.).
Heat treatment is one of the crucial processes in the mechanical manufacturing industry. For instance, approximately 70-80% of parts in vehicles, tractors, and machine tools require heat treatment, while almost all components such as cutting tools, measuring instruments, molds, and bearings must be heat treated before they can be used.
Heat treatment technology has a long history in our country, dating back to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, when our ancestors utilized their exquisite heat treatment techniques to forge famous swords like Qianjiang and Mo Ye. During the Western Han Dynasty, it was possible to quench steel swords, and by the Ming Dynasty, there were written records of solid carbonization methods. In recent decades, with the development of science and technology, heat treatment technology has demonstrated its unique role in unleashing the potential of metallic materials, enhancing product quality, and extending service life.
Especially with the emergence of new processes such as various chemical heat treatments and ion implantation heat treatments, as well as the adoption of new technologies and equipment like controlled atmosphere, vacuum heat treatment, and laser heat treatment, significant advancements have been made in enhancing the performance of parts, shortening production cycles, reducing heat treatment costs, and mitigating environmental hazards. Currently, the heat treatment industry has reached a new stage of development.
