Baghouse dust collectors and pulse jet baghouse filters are widely used in many industries, yet many customers are still unsure about how to select the filter velocity for baghouse dust collectors?
Choosing the filter velocity for a bag dust collector is like life: the more choices, the harder and more confusing it becomes. Without selecting the right velocity, the drum filter cannot fully utilize its performance. Only by choosing the appropriate standard velocity can the company reap substantial benefits and achieve excellent dust removal results.
How do you choose the filter velocity for a baghouse dust collector?
In general, the three key parameters for bag dust collectors are air volume, filtration area, and filtration air velocity.
We all know that filter bags in dust collectors have many fiber pores. The size of the filtration air speed is actually a matter of intuition. As the speed increases, fine dust particles are easily affected by inertia and pass through the fiber pores, which is why we must choose a reasonable filtration speed.
If cost is not a factor, a lower filtration wind speed directly brings two benefits:
1. The equipment has low running resistance, and due to the slow filter air velocity, dust accumulation is also slow, allowing for timely pulse blowing of dust.
Improved dust removal efficiency.
As previously mentioned, the faster the speed, the more dust can seep through perforations, resulting in higher corresponding emission concentrations; conversely, the slower the speed, the lower the emission concentrations.
How should the air velocity for the filter bag dust collector be set appropriately?
The dust collection requirements vary depending on the type of dust, particularly fine dust. According to years of research and data analysis from Schwab Environmental Lab, for example, smoke dust should be collected at a rate below 1 meter per minute. For slightly larger particles, soft dust can be collected at a rate of around 1.2 meters per minute, while sharp-edged hard dust should be collected at a rate below 0.8 meters per minute, and so on. Choosing the appropriate wind speed based on the characteristics of the dust is crucial, otherwise, the lifespan of the dust removal filter element will be significantly shortened.
Here, we can expand on this: the dust removal air velocity of bag dust collectors can be faster than that of filter cartridge dust collectors due to the different filter material structures. The bags are flat, while the cartridges are drum-shaped and folded, with more creases that are harder to clean. Therefore, the air velocity for filter cartridge dust collectors should be lower.
