What is Liquid Ammonia Silk Finishing? The silk finishing process includes not only caustic soda silk finishing but also liquid ammonia silk finishing. Liquid ammonia silk finishing utilizes the small molecules of ammonia, which allow for quick penetration into the fabric, reaching the fiber interior and causing it to swell, thereby achieving the silk finishing effect without the use of caustic soda. Compared to alkali silk finishing, the fabric treated with liquid ammonia appears particularly flat and feels exceptionally soft, with significant improvements in strength and resistance to shrinkage in both wet and dry conditions. This is something that conventional softening or pre-shrinking processes cannot achieve. The equipment for liquid ammonia silk finishing requires a substantial investment, and is generally not available in smaller textile factories. We have previously learned about double silk finishing; when combined with liquid ammonia silk finishing, it becomes triple silk finishing. Triple silk finishing refers to the process of applying silk finishing to the yarn before weaving, then using the silk-finished yarn to weave the fabric. After weaving, the fabric is first subjected to caustic soda silk finishing, followed by liquid ammonia silk finishing.
