What is the fabric made of, and what are its components? The name "Dacron" is actually the trade name for American polyester, chemically known as polyethylene terephthalate, a type of polyester fiber. It was first introduced in Hong Kong and translated into Cantonese as "Dak lam," which later spread to the mainland and became known as "Dak liang." However, this fabric is not cool, hence the name "Dacron." Why it's popular: Despite not being body-hugging, breathable, or insulating, "Dacron" fabric is highly durable, has excellent colorability (disperse dye), and was very popular in the 70s and 80s. With advancements in spinning and dyeing technology, polyester now offers moisture-wicking, antibacterial, and static-free properties through the use of special spinning, high molecular modification, and functional additives, once again attracting public attention.
