When thinking of cotton, images of white fluffy ball-shaped flowers growing on stems in cotton fields immediately come to mind. These flower-like structures are called "bolls." In fact, they are the fruits of the cotton plant. After the flowers are pollinated and form cotton seeds, the fluffy fibers on the seeds grow out from the seed coat, gradually filling the interior of the fruit until they burst through the fruit's skin.Cotton, as commonly known, is the state formed when the fibers grow from the seeds and burst through the fruit shell after the cotton flower blooms and fruits.Cotton fibers, grown on cottonseeds, are categorized by length, ranging from ultra-long fibers of 2.5 to 6.5 millimeters, to long fibers from 1.3 to 3.3 millimeters, and finally short fibers of 1 to 2.5 millimeters.Generally, cotton with longer fibers produces softer and lighter fabrics due to fewer exposed fiber ends in the yarn, making it ideal for high-end clothing, close-fitting bedding, and towels.
