Harvesting cotton not only depends on the fiber length of the cotton but also on the harvesting method, which affects its quality. High-end cotton products are predominantly made from handpicked cotton. This is not only because handpicked cotton retains the integrity of the fiber but also because the cotton bolls mature from the bottom of the plant upwards. Hand harvesting allows for the first picking of the lower part of the plant, followed by a reharvest one to two months later for the upper part. This method differs from machine harvesting, which uproots the entire plant, potentially damaging the fibers and exposing them to contamination from the machinery's oil and dust.

Harvesting cotton by hand requires gripping the boll's bottom with all five fingers to minimize fiber damage.
The process of machine harvesting can mix debris like withered branches and sand with the cotton, causing significant damage to the fibers.
When purchasing bedding, we often encounter merchants advertising that their product is made of Xinjiang cotton or Egyptian long-staple cotton; in recent years, they've also heavily promoted Pima cotton; to the point where we're quite confused. Let's take a look at the differences between these three types of cotton below.
Xinjiang cotton, Egyptian cotton, and Pima cotton are essentially representatives of three regions. Why are the cottons from these areas particularly famous? It's mainly due to climate issues; the quality of cotton is greatly influenced by the climate, such as its length, fineness, and micronaire value, among other factors.
