Fluff refers to the ends of fibers that protrude from the main yarn body or curl up on the yarn surface. Fluff is a result of the combined causes of fiber movement during the production process. The causes of fluff include broken ends and excessively curled hook fibers in raw cotton. It forms due to irregular fiber arrangement and irregular movement caused by the unsteady interaction forces during the elongation process.
The wool fibers are mainly generated in the triangle area between the front clamp and the twist limit point in the fine yarn floating zone, and grow due to channel friction after the yarn is formed, with the key increase being the tension friction during the winding process. Their shapes vary, and their occurrence patterns are also different.
The hair fibers extend in different shapes from the yarn base, dividing into three types: end hair, loop hair, and floating hair.
End fluff: The end of the fiber extends from the surface of the yarn body, while the rest is wrapped inside. A significant proportion of the fluff, which is less than 4mm in length, is caused by short fibers, especially the harmful fluff of 3mm or less is mostly end fluff.
② Loop ends: Both ends of the fiber are wrapped into the yarn core, with the middle part extending above the yarn surface. This type of hairiness is mainly caused by long fibers being wrapped around the yarn core during movement. Loop ends, after friction, often form hairiness of 8mm to 9mm. Particularly after the winding process, the length of 9mm hairiness is closely related to the number of loop ends.
③ Floating Fluff: Loose fibers attached to the surface of the yarn. This type of fluff is often caused by impurities in the yarn, which lead to shedding due to intense friction during post-processing.
