Rayon, also known as viscose fiber, is a major variety of artificial fibers. It is produced by alkalizing natural cellulose to form alkali cellulose, which then reacts with CO2 to generate cellulose xanthate. The thick solution obtained by dissolving it in dilute alkali is called viscose. Viscose fiber is formed after wet spinning and a series of processing steps. Its basic composition is (C6H10O5)n. The cross-section of ordinary rayon fibers is a sawtooth-shaped core structure, with longitudinal straight grooves. In contrast, high-viscosity rayon lacks a core structure and has a circular cross-section.
Viscose fibers have good hygroscopic properties, with a moisture regain rate of around 13% under normal atmospheric conditions. After absorbing moisture, they significantly expand, with the diameter increasing up to 50%. Consequently, the fabric feels stiff after being soaked, and has a high shrinkage rate.Regular viscose fibers have a lower breaking strength compared to cotton, approximately 1.6 to 2.7 cN/dtex; their elongation at break is greater than cotton, ranging from 16% to 22%; wet strength decreases significantly, about 50% of the dry strength, with an increase in elongation of about 50% in the wet state. Their modulus is lower than cotton, making them more prone to deformation under low loads, and they have poor elasticity recovery, leading to easy elongation and poor dimensional stability. The strength, especially the wet strength, of富强纤维 is higher than that of regular viscose, with less elongation at break and good dimensional stability. Regular viscose has poor wear resistance, while富强 fiber shows an improvement.Viscose fibers have a chemical composition similar to cotton, making them more resistant to alkalis but not to acids, although their resistance to both is less than that of cotton. Rich fibers, on the other hand, exhibit good resistance to both alkalis and acids. Viscose fibers also have similar dyeing properties to cotton, offering a full spectrum of dyes and good dyeing performance. Additionally, their thermal properties are similar to cotton, with a density of approximately 1.50~1.52 g/cm³.Regular viscose fibers have good moisture absorption, are easy to dye, are static-free, and possess good spinnability. Short fibers can be spun into yarns alone or blended with other textile fibers. The resulting fabrics are soft, smooth, breathable, comfortable to wear, and after dyeing, they have vibrant colors with good color fastness. They are suitable for making underwear, outerwear, and various decorative items. Long fiber yarns are lightweight and can be used not only for clothing but also for making bed covers and decorative fabrics.
