Scorching is a process that involves rapidly passing fabric through the flames of a scorching machine or over a hot metal surface to remove the surface fuzz and achieve a smooth finish. The fuzz on the fabric surface, being close to the flame and in a loose state, burns quickly. The fabric itself, being denser and thicker, and further from the flame, heats up more slowly and leaves the flame or hot metal surface before reaching the ignition point. This principle of different heating rates between the fabric and the fuzz allows for the removal of surface fuzz without damaging the fabric. During scorching, different fiber materials require varying scorching temperatures, so it is essential to understand the thermal properties of different fiber types.
