Why Silk Finishing Cotton and Blended Fabrics?
Cotton fiber products have long been favored for their excellent moisture-absorbing properties, soft texture, and comfortable feel against the skin. However, unprocessed cotton fabrics tend to shrink, wrinkle, and have poor dyeing effects. Silk finishing can improve these shortcomings of cotton products. It enhances fabric quality: Silk-finished cotton and its blends, such as T-shirts, button-down shirts, jackets, and skirts, show significant differences in appearance and texture compared to unprocessed versions. Silk-finished products have a texture that's neither purely cotton nor silk, feeling soft yet crisp and comfortable; their colors are rich and lustrous. It improves fabric dyeing performance: Most cotton fabrics use reactive dyes for dyeing or printing. Silk finishing causes a physical and chemical change in the cotton fibers, significantly increasing the color yield of reactive dyes, saving on dyeing chemicals; for dark-colored products, especially black, deep blue, dark green, and coffee, silk finishing is essential to produce high-quality items. It increases fabric moisture absorption and elasticity: After silk finishing, fabrics show a marked increase in moisture absorption and elasticity, making them ideal for sportswear materials like vests and athletic shirts.
