Derivative weaves are various types of woven structures that are modified from the original weave (such as altering the number of yarn twists, float length, pick count, and twill line direction, etc.). Derivative weaves can be categorized into three types: Plain Weave Variants (including heavy plain weave, square plain weave, etc.), Twill Weave Variants (including reinforced twill, composite twill, angle twill, mountain twill, diamond twill, reed twill, etc.), and Taffeta Weave Variants (including reinforced taffeta, modified taffeta, etc.).
The fabric with plain weaves exhibits a raised stripe effect in some cases, often used in designing cotton shirting, linen, and muslin, while others have a smooth appearance with a soft, elastic feel and good luster, commonly serving as the selvage in fabrics like clothing and screens. The twill weaves display various twill effects, with some showing multiple parallel twills and others in a light-and-dark split, or even in herringbone or mat-like patterns, making them widely applicable in cotton, wool, silk, and synthetic fiber designs. The satin weave variations, compared to the traditional satin weave, offer a more casual and free design approach, thus gaining extensive use in fabrics such as satin stripes, checkered satins, plush cloaks, and women's tweeds.
