What are the differences between manganese plates and ordinary steel plates, and how to distinguish them?
One, Indication of Different
1. Standard Steel Plate: A flat steel product that is cast from molten steel, cooled, and then pressed.
2. Manganese Plates: Low-alloy high-strength steel plates, known as Q345 steel plate (formerly called 16Mn).
Welding Performance Variations
1. Standard Steel Plates: Due to poor temper stability, carbon steel requires a lower tempering temperature during heat treatment to ensure higher strength, which results in lower toughness. Conversely, when using a higher tempering temperature to achieve better toughness, the strength is reduced. Consequently, the overall mechanical properties of carbon steel are not highly developed.
2. Manganese Plates: No preheating or slow cooling required; however, preheat to about 100-150 degrees Celsius if the thickness exceeds 30mm. Generally, J507 can be used for welding, and if the toughness is slightly better, J507RH can also be recommended.
III. Different Applications
1. Standard Steel Plates: Includes oil drum steel plates, enamel steel plates, bulletproof steel plates, etc.; categorized by surface coating, there are galvanized thin plates, tin-plated thin plates, lead-plated thin plates, and plastic composite steel plates, among others.
2. Manganese Plates: Metal structural components, carburized or cyanided parts with low core strength requirements, such as tie rods, connecting rods, hoists, couplings, bolts and nuts, sleeves, shafts, and welded parts.
