The acid washing of quartz sand is all wet acid washing, utilizing various acids such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and oxalic acid. The crushing before acid washing is also wet crushing, with some using mechanical methods like hammer crushing, resulting in a large amount of mechanical iron in the material. The reaction between mechanical iron and quartz sand in water is slow, usually taking several days for the mechanical iron to oxidize into trivalent iron and turn reddish-yellow. If the material is soaked in acid, the rate of iron oxidation in exposed air accelerates.
