Recently, due to a news report of a home coal stove exploding after adding antifreeze, Global Electric Boiler would like to remind all users: When using antifreeze instead of water, be cautious in selecting the type of antifreeze. It is prohibited to use antifreeze containing flammable components, as they pose an explosion risk. Choose antifreeze with ethylene glycol as the main ingredient. There are many types of antifreeze on the market, such as calcium chloride in inorganic substances, and methanol, ethanol (commonly known as alcohol), ethylene glycol, and glycerol (also known as propylene glycol) in organic substances. Ethanol has an freezing point of -114°C and a boiling point of 78.3°C, is highly flammable, and evaporates easily. Glycerol (propylene glycol) has a freezing point of -17°C and a boiling point of 290°C, and when mixed with water, its freezing point can drop as low as -46.5°C. Ethylene glycol has a freezing point of -11.5°C and a boiling point of 197.4°C, and when mixed with water, its freezing point can drop as low as -68°C.
