What's the difference between an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar? Is it just the appearance?

The common Spanish guitar is divided into classical and folk guitars, also known as singing guitars. The distinction between the two lies in the use of nylon guitar strings, which have been in existence for over 200 years.

Classical guitars are not worn with a strap and are primarily played in a seated position. One method involves crossing your legs, placing the guitar on your right thigh, while another entails placing a small stool under your left foot with the guitar resting on your left leg.

The classical guitar, primarily played with the fingertips, is most often used for solo performances. Its sound is soft and mellow, making it ideal for playing complex arpeggios, single notes, and solos. Its repertoire ranges widely, from simple to intricate pieces, including "Love's Romance," "Dripping," "Moonlight," "The Recollections of the Alhambra," and "The Magic Flute." In fact, today's classical guitar extends beyond classical music, now widely used in pop, jazz, and even symphonic compositions.

The folk guitar, as the name suggests, is primarily designed for playing folk accompaniment. It can be played using fingernails or a pick. The strings are made of steel, offering a bright tone and good颗粒感, making it suitable for single notes and solo arpeggios, and more so for strumming and fingerpicking styles. The guitars commonly found in the market today are all of this type. Due to the steel strings of the folk guitar, many of these guitars on the market now come with an accessory called a "pickup." This device converts the mechanical vibration signals of the guitar into electrical signals, which can then be amplified through PA equipment.

Due to the fact that folk guitars can be mounted with a strap, the playing style is quite casual, allowing for either a seated or standing position.
