Most guitar learners don't know to play like this first when they get the six-string music sheet. Gain knowledge!
Tip One: Hit the Main Chord
The main theme is like a thread that weaves together a piece of fingerpicking music into a beautiful and melodious composition. Therefore, before obtaining a pre-written six-line staff, one must identify the main theme notes of the piece, their positions, and what type of notes they are.Four-beat, eight-beat, or 16-beat notes—this tells us the length of the sound. This piece is like constructing a house; first, you build the entire framework. Otherwise, if you just play note by note according to the six-line staff, you don't know what you're playing; it's as tasteless as plain water.
Tip Two: Reinforce the strong beat
Once familiar with the positions and lengths of the main melody notes, the next step is to identify which notes fall on the strong beat, the weak-strong beat, and the weak beat. This determines the varying intensity of the right hand's string plucking, creating a sense of起伏 (rise and fall) and expressing different emotions and sentiments.
Tip Three: Keyboarding Skills Are Crucial
Many online or book tablatures lack fingerings, making beginners rely solely on their imagination to play a piece. In reality, proper fingering is crucial for playing any piece well, whether it's folk fingerpicking or classical music. Mastering the fingering allows for a smooth execution of a piece. Without clear fingerings, there may be drag or disconnection, resulting in a chaotic rhythm. Therefore, having fingering notations or video guidance would be ideal. Otherwise, observing how experts play can be beneficial; notice which notes are shifted with which fingers. This approach can greatly enhance efficiency.
