Counterflow Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

I. Overview

Counterflow closed-loop cooling towers, named due to the opposite direction of cold and hot mediums, spray water from top to bottom, and air flows at high speed from bottom to top. Mainly composed of heat exchange coils, spray water system, exhaust system, and framework shell.






























II. Process Workflow

The spray pump draws water from the sump, pumps it to the upper part of the heat exchange coil, where it is sprayed in an umbrella-like pattern, covering the outer surface of the pipe material continuously and evenly, forming a thin water film. Part of the water absorbs the heat from the cooled medium inside the pipe, turning from liquid to vapor, evaporating and carrying away heat. The cooled medium inside the pipe is cooled down or condensed into a liquid, and the water that does not evaporate falls back into the spray water sump.

Exhaust System: The roof fan is an intake type, drawing air from inside the tower and exhausting it outside. Cold, dry air outside the tower enters through the inlet grille after passing through a filter to remove debris. It flows upward from the bottom of the heat exchange coil, carrying away the evaporated water vapor, increasing the humidity and temperature of the air, which is then exhausted outside by the fan.

In the sprinkler trough, a float valve is installed. When the water level is low, it automatically replenishes the supply to ensure a consistent water level in the trough.

Electrical control, online detection of the outlet temperature of the cooled medium, feedback to the data processing center, automatic control of the spray pump and fan start/stop based on the temperature of the cooling medium, to achieve energy-saving goals.































Section 3: Reverse Flow Closed Circuit Cooling Tower Operation Principle

1. Internal Recirculation: Recirculating water is heated after heat exchange with heat source equipment and then enters the surface cooler. It undergoes inter-wall heat exchange in the cooler, and the cooled recirculating water is then pumped back to the heat source equipment.

2. External circulation: Sprinkler water is transported from the reservoir to the sprinkler system, where it sprays out and contacts the surface cooler for evaporation heat exchange. The humid steam is exhausted through the fan, while the non-vaporized sprinkler water falls back into the reservoir and is then pumped back into the sprinkler system for another cycle.
