In precision casting processes, particularly in the "isometric" process, metal temperature is the dominant factor, thus having a direct impact on many quality characteristics. Inadequate measurement and control of metal temperature differences can affect the dimensions of the finished castings, grain size, porosity (both surface and internal), mechanical properties, product quality (i.e., the tendency for thermal cracking), and the filling of thin-walled sections.
Therefore, improving the measurement and control of metal temperatures will enhance quality and productivity, reduce maintenance and labor costs, and lower testing fees and liability compensation expenses.
