Roof leaks are common in self-built bungalows and old residential complexes, as their roofs are flat and made of concrete. These structures often lack color steel roofing and insulation layers. During rain, water drips directly onto the concrete floor, simply causing leakage and seepage issues. What should you do when faced with a leaking roof? Today, we share waterproofing and repair methods for roof leaks.
Identifying the source of water leakage and pinpointing the leak point is crucial. Only by locating the root cause can we implement targeted repair and waterproofing measures. Below, we will explain the roof leakage repair methods based on different leakage locations:
One: Roof Debris Clogs Drainage: Impurities blocking the roof's downspouts, drainage ditches, and pipes are causing poor water flow, leading to accumulated water on the rooftop and increasing the risk of leaks. Cleaning the debris and clearing the drainage channels will resolve the leak issue.
Two: Waterproof membrane laying issues, such as hollow鼓 or curled edges: The material does not establish a reasonable, solid, full-adhesive bond with the base layer. Any leakage will cause water to seep through and spread across an entire area.
Three, Early Accumulation of Insulation Layer Moisture: In most northern regions, roofs are constructed with an inverted roof system, where the insulation layer is beneath the waterproofing layer. Due to damage to the waterproofing layer, rainwater can seep through and accumulate within the insulation layer. Even without rain outside, leakage issues can occur on the top floor.
To eliminate this water leakage issue, it is necessary to remove the waterproofing layer, leveling layer, and insulation layer, and then redo the thermal insulation coating and waterproofing.
If you're in the northern or central regions, where there are areas below zero degrees Celsius throughout the year, I recommend focusing on the beams of the house. This is because simply applying waterproofing may not yield significant results, typically lasting only one to two years before leakage occurs again.
Five, if you wish to eliminate [the issue], you must still construct a triangular roof. Cover it with color steel tiles or cement tiles. This is because, regardless of heavy rain, it will promptly remove stains and prevent water from seeping in. If only waterproofing is applied, during winter when temperatures drop below -40 degrees Celsius, the principle of thermal expansion and contraction will cause the waterproofing to fail. It cannot maintain long-term waterproofing effectiveness. To eliminate the issue, only raised beams should be used.
