Currently, the use of waterproof and breathable membranes in steel structures is becoming increasingly widespread. These membranes primarily serve to protect the insulation layer, preventing moisture from eroding the insulation materials and extending the lifespan of the insulation. Waterproof and breathable membranes used in construction typically offer the following advantages:

1. A rational construction plan and method. Rational construction is the fundamental way to prevent rain or snowmelt water from infiltrating. During installation, an overlap must be installed; waterproof tape should be used at the overlaps of the waterproof breathable membrane and at any perforations; workers need to use capped nails and U-shaped bend nails to secure the installation.

2. High anti-aging, antioxidant, and high-temperature resistance. Due to the structural waterproof characteristics of profiled steel structures, their waterproofing, airtightness, low ventilation, and high metal thermal conductivity all exceed those of wooden structures. Field tests have shown that under direct sunlight for extended periods, the internal temperature of the metal roof structure can exceed 100 degrees Celsius. If a waterproof and breathable film is added to the steel structure, it will undergo self-thermal decomposition, providing the product with waterproof properties and extending its service life.

3. Effectively addresses the accumulation of condensation water. Lack of understanding of the "breathability" performance can lead to误区 when using waterproof breathable membranes. Air pressure difference is the fundamental cause of water vapor movement. Water molecules pass through the "breathable" membrane via both micropores and molecular gaps. Theoretically, "breathability" is bidirectional. Unlike wood, glass wool, and perlite wool, which have higher water absorbency, Tongguan Electric does not recommend using highly breathable products in sealed pressurized steel plate and sandwich panel structures.
