What are the issues to be aware of when using a paper stiffness tester?

Abstract: Paper stiffness is an important indicator of paperboard materials, directly affecting the paper's bending performance (also known as bending stiffness). Our paper mill typically requires a set of paper stiffness gauges for tracking tests. However, the maintenance and post-use care of these gauges can impact the accuracy of the data obtained. Below, let's share some maintenance and usage tips for paper stiffness gauges.

Please note:

Prior to operation, the gripping chuck must not hold any other specimens to ensure the accuracy of the reset and prevent damage to the sensor.

2. Preheat for 10 minutes before each test; strongly recommend grounding the protective earth wire to the earth; immediately shut off the power if any abnormal data display occurs in the product. The interval between turning off and turning on the power switch must exceed 10 minutes.

3. Sample selection: The test sample surface should not have folds, creases, visible damage to the naked eye, or any other defects.

4. Using a tensile strength sampler, we accurately cut the sample to the following dimensions: 70×(38±0.2)mm

5. Mechanical Zeroing: Select a test sample as the zeroing sample. Gently turn the chuck handle with one hand, while placing a segment of the sample to be tested into the sample chuck with the other hand. Release your hand. Adjust the fine-tuning screw at the sensor end until the sample is close to the sensor measuring head, completing the mechanical zeroing.

6. Do not touch the sensor; the sensor's load-bearing capacity is 2kg.

Maintenance Methods:

Maintain the cleanliness of the testing machine regularly, and cover it with a dust cover when not in use for an extended period.

When a testing machine malfunctions, it should be inspected and repaired by a professional; do not operate it while it is in a faulty state.

The drive screw section of the testing machine should be periodically lubricated with a small amount of oil.

4. Adhere to periodic calibration to maintain the excellent technical condition of the testing machine. The calibration cycle is generally one year.

The above is a compilation of some precautions and maintenance tips for the paper stiffness tester, provided by the Y诺 Instrument editors. We hope this information is helpful to technicians using the stiffness tester in laboratories.
