Three Reasons Why Sintered Bricks Crack After Firing: Find Out Here

Sintered bricks have now evolved into a material for modern garden paving, made from clay, and have gradually been more accepted by modern people. Sintered bricks require numerous polishing stages before they are formed. No one can guarantee perfection at every step, so each process must be taken seriously. The baking process significantly affects the quality after formation, and certain factors or improper actions during baking can cause the product to crack. 1. Inadequate structural design


The sintered brick expansion joints were not designed properly, with insufficient numbers of circumferential and longitudinal expansion joints. After the boiler was in operation, materials were heated, causing expansion and mutual compression, leading to cracks. The expansion joint between the wear-resistant material and refractory brick at the cyclone separator's inlet flue was modified to 1cm, with enough space left to accommodate expansion. The expansion joint was changed to a zigzag design to prevent boiler ash from penetrating and abrading the insulation layer. The filling material for the expansion joints requires both sides to be lined with牛皮 paper-covered refractory fiber felt to prevent the refractory mortar from seeping into the filling material. The filling material needs a rigid plywood to prevent deformation during vibration and compaction. After the boiler operation, the plywood undergoes high-temperature combustion, transforming into the expansion joint.

The matching and bonding of aggregates with the matrix in this material significantly impact its wear resistance. Poor bonding between aggregates and the matrix leads to the matrix being washed away first, leaving only the aggregates, which then fall off. Some materials may also deteriorate and crack due to improper storage and moisture during the storage period.


3. Construction techniques are not reasonable.


Improper construction techniques are the third primary cause of cracking in fired bricks, and a significant factor contributing to it. Therefore, construction personnel should take adequate preparations and preventive measures before construction, which will reduce the likelihood of cracking and enhance the baking quality of the products.
