Applications of rebars
Rebar is extensively used in civil engineering projects such as buildings, bridges, and roads. From major public facilities like highways, railways, bridges, culverts, tunnels, flood control, and dams, to the foundations, beams, columns, walls, and slabs of residential buildings, rebar is an indispensable structural material.
Statistics show that the steel consumption in China's construction industry accounts for about 50% of the total steel consumption. As one of the industries with high resource consumption, the construction sector must adjust the structure of building material consumption and vigorously adopt high-strength steel rebars and high-performance concrete to pursue a sustainable development path. If the current steel and concrete are upgraded to a higher strength grade, it could lead to significant savings for society. For instance, according to calculations, if the tensile strength of the main reinforcement steel in reinforced concrete is increased to 400-500 N/mm² as required by regulations, it could result in a saving of approximately 10% on the current steel usage level.
