FlexoFORM Corrosion Scanner

Highly flexible

Pipe elbows are prone to damage, such as that caused by Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC). However, due to the shape change from convex to concave and the varying diameters of pipes, inspecting pipe elbows is highly challenging. The FlexoFORM solution utilizes flexible phased array probe technology in scanners, effectively tackling the difficulty of detecting pipe elbows. With the addition of a water layer, this solution can collect data that is easy to interpret from elbows with diameters ranging from 4.5 inches to flat, offering the following multiple advantages:

  • Cover the entire elbow area

  • Intuitive 2D C-Scan Imaging

  • High-resolution data (1mm x 1mm)

  • Rapidly measure the wall thickness of elbows

High-resolution data

Scanners, when used with OmniScan MX2 or OmniScan SX instruments, can detect and measure various types of damage or anomalies, such as remaining wall thickness, pitting, delamination, or inclusions within pipe walls. Combining high-density data with the multiple views provided by flaw detectors or OmniPC software, it presents clear images of elbow conditions, making data interpretation faster and easier.

This solution encodes the scan direction, and the scanner is directly equipped with a step button for incremental operations in the secondary axis direction.

The magnetic wheel secures the scanner firmly against the pipeline, while the foam gasket maintains permanent contact with the surface to keep the water layer fully charged.

The scanner utilizes water wedges, significantly reducing water consumption, and easily handles bubbles in the water. It also allows the scanner to adhere to both convex and concave surfaces of elbows, couple with surfaces of moderate roughness, and synchronize data with surface echoes.

Each water wedge is curved to fit specific pipe diameters. Simply install the probe and wedge assembly onto the scanner, and the system is ready for inspection.

Scan Options

Longitudinal scan

This scanning configuration is particularly useful when inspecting smaller pipelines or focusing on specific areas around the pipeline. FlexoFORM's longitudinal scanning capability also makes it a powerful tool for inspecting the boiler water walls in power plants.

Manual Scan of Small Diameter Elbows

We also offer a range of small diameter wedges for inspecting pipes with diameters less than 4.5 inches. With these wedges, users can manually scan the curved back (outer arch line) area or the pipe with diameters ranging from 1.3 inches to 4 inches. To obtain coded C-scan images, the SFA1-SMALL wedge series can be assembled with the Mini-Wheel encoder for scanning.

Automatic Scan

In certain applications, longitudinal scanning is more suitable than circumferential scanning. For inspecting pipes with diameters of 8.625 inches or more, including flat pipes, the SFA1-AUTO wedge block series can be used.
