Five Key Features of Self-Limiting Heating Tape
(1) Power-Temperature Characteristics: This characteristic was measured under simulated pipe heating and insulation conditions. With the increase of the temperature of the heated system, the power generally decreases linearly. The slope represents the reduction in the power of the heating tape per degree change in the heated system's temperature, reflecting its ability to automatically adjust power with temperature changes. It should be noted that the power of the heating tape is a steady-state parameter, influenced by multiple factors, and cannot be simply calculated by multiplying current by voltage. Different voltage, power, and temperature grade characteristic curves vary.
(2) To maintain the temperature of a system, if the amount of heat transferred by the electric heating tape to the system within a unit of time equals the amount of heat the system transfers to the environment, the temperature of the system can be kept constant. A certain maintenance temperature can be achieved through thermal design at the highest maintenance temperature of a product within a certain temperature range. However, a temperature controller should be configured if high precision is required.
(3) The PTC core of the electric heating tape can withstand the influence of external heat sources below a certain temperature. Once the temperature exceeds this threshold, the power of the PTC core will gradually decrease in an accumulative manner. Therefore, do not exceed the maximum temperature rating for the PTC core of this model of electric heating tape during use.
(4) Maximum Surface Temperature: Placing an adequate length of electric heating tape inside a well-insulated, sealed container and reaching the highest temperature at the rated voltage is the maximum surface temperature of the heating tape. This parameter is crucial in environments with flammable materials or explosive gases. Products with different voltages, power levels, and temperature ratings have varying maximum surface temperatures.
(5) ***Large's electric heating tape can be cut to any desired length for use, but it can only be extended within a certain length range; in other words, it cannot exceed ***Large due to variations in rated voltage, power, wire cross-section, and the lowest ambient temperature during use. If the required length of the heating tape exceeds ***Large's maximum usable length, an additional power source or a special specification of medium or long-length companion heating cable should be used.
Self-limiting heating tape application range:
Electric tracing products are widely used for pipe, pump body, valve, tank and vessel insulation, thawing, and anti-foaming in industries such as oil, chemicals, power, machinery, food, and shipping. They are an effective method to maintain process temperatures for fluid pipelines and storage vessels. Electric tracing is not only suitable for steam tracing applications but also addresses issues that steam tracing cannot, such as tracing for long-distance pipelines, in narrow spaces, for irregularly shaped equipment (like pumps), in areas without steam sources or in remote locations, and for plastic and non-metallic pipelines, among others.
