Sprocket maintenance and care

1. The tension of the sprocket should be appropriate; too tight increases power consumption and wears out the bearings easily; too loose, the sprocket may jump and come off. The tension level of the sprocket is: from the middle of the sprocket or press down, about 2-3 times the distance between the two sprockets.

2. The chain sprocket should be mounted on the shaft without any oscillation or misalignment. The end faces of two chain sprockets within the same drive component should be in the same plane. When the center distance of the sprocket is less than 0.5 meters, the deviation can be up to 1 millimeter; when the center distance is more than 0.5 meters, the deviation can be up to 2 millimeters. However, friction between the sprocket teeth should not occur. If the sprockets are misaligned, it can lead to chain slippage and increased wear. Pay attention to check and adjust the misalignment when replacing the chain sprockets.

3. After severe wear of the sprocket, both the sprocket and the chain should be replaced simultaneously to ensure proper engagement. It's not enough to replace just the sprocket or the chain. Otherwise, it may lead to uneven wear or damage to either the sprocket or the chain. Once the sprocket teeth have worn to a certain extent, the sprocket should be flipped (if adjustable) to extend its service life.

4. Chain wheel lengthens or elongates after use, difficult to adjust. You can remove links as needed, but they should be an even number. The links should be threaded from the back of the chain wheel, the locking tabs inserted on the outside, and the locking tabs should open in the opposite direction of rotation.

5. Chain sprockets should be timely lubricated during operation. Lubricant entering the clearance between the rollers and the inner sleeve improves working conditions and reduces wear.

6. Do not mix the old chain sprocket with the new one, as this may cause impact during transmission and lead to the chain sprocket breaking.

7. When storing machinery long-term, the chain wheel should be removed, cleaned with kerosene or diesel, then coated with machine oil or grease and stored in a dry place.
