Siemens Develops AI Agent for Industrial Automation

    2025-05-19

Automated autonomous iteration: AI agents to empower Siemens Industrial Copilot

・Vision for the Future: The Industrial AI Agent Ecosystem will be launched on the Siemens Xcelerator platform, integrating Siemens' in-house and third-party agent resources.

Facilitating industrial enterprises to achieve a 50% increase in productivity.

Siemens recently participated in the Automate 2025 exhibition on industrial automation and robotics in Detroit, announcing the expansion of its industrial AI product portfolio. The company is creating advanced AI agents that seamlessly integrate with the Siemens Industrial Copilot ecosystem. This new technology signifies the evolution of AI assistants from passive responses to user queries to agents that can proactively and autonomously execute entire processes without human intervention. The Siemens AI agent architecture is equipped with advanced coordinator modules, acting like skilled artisans, capable of flexibly utilizing a range of specialized AI tools to address complex tasks across the entire industrial value chain. These agents possess intelligent and autonomous capabilities, accurately understanding task intentions and continuously learning to optimize execution efficiency. They can also call on external tools or collaborate with other agents based on actual needs. Meanwhile, users always maintain full control, allowing them to autonomously decide which tasks to delegate to the AI agents.

Siemens Digital Industries Factory Automation CEO Rainer Brehm stated, "With the help of industrial AI agents, we are breaking through traditional Q&A interaction models to create systems capable of independently executing complete industrial workflows. Through the autonomous iteration of automation technology, we anticipate helping customers achieve up to a 50% increase in production efficiency, fundamentally reconstructing the industrial operation system and unleashing new development potential."

Automated Autonomous Iteration: The Operation Mechanism of the AI Agent Architecture Siemens' adopted technology path clearly delineates the user interface of Industrial Copilot and the AI agents providing technical support in the background. Additionally, Siemens is actively developing digital intelligent agents and integrating physical agents such as mobile robots. In this manner, Siemens is committed to building a comprehensive multi-AI agent system, achieving high interconnection and collaborative operations among the agents.

Siemens' unique advantage lies in its comprehensive ecosystem, which coordinates these agents. Not only can these agents collaborate with other Siemens agents, but they can also integrate with third-party agents, achieving unprecedented interoperability levels.

To further promote technological applications and innovative development, Siemens plans to establish an Industrial AI Agent Trading Center within the Siemens Xcelerator online marketplace. At that time, customers will not only be able to utilize Siemens' self-developed AI agents but also access a variety of third-party developed intelligent agent resources.

The comprehensive Siemens Industrial Copilot, powered by industrial AI entities, covers all aspects of the industrial value chain in both process and discrete industries.

Copilot for Design: Now compatible with NX CAD software, it accelerates the product design process and aids users in exploring innovative design ideas. Design engineers can use this tool to efficiently handle complex data, weigh pros and cons, and complete cross-domain tasks. This AI assistant supports natural language interaction, empowering users to quickly obtain comprehensive technical analysis, simplify cumbersome design processes, and significantly enhance product development efficiency. Additionally, Siemens is developing the Hydrogen Configurator, a design tool for H2 production plant. With this tool, users can seamlessly generate process flow diagrams that include precise plant unit layouts and interconnection functions.

The planned Copilot is currently in the pre-release stage, with clients already testing it. This solution leverages generative AI to optimize production planning, resource allocation, and scheduling management, helping manufacturers maximize operational efficiency and reduce resource waste.

・Copilot for Engineering: Compatible with the TIA Portal, its hosted service is expected to launch in 2025. As the first automated engineering product based on generative AI, this collaborative assistant can reduce repetitive tasks, allowing engineers to generate automated code through natural language input. It enhances the efficiency of Structured Control Language (SCL) code generation while minimizing programming errors.

In the process industry sector, multiple clients have completed testing of our P&ID Digitalization collaborative assistant for process piping and instrumentation diagrams. This product is an AI-assisted P&ID detection cloud service that enables the digital conversion and integrated management of traditional P&ID drawings.

The Operations-Centric Copilot: Currently deployed on the Insights Hub platform, it offers panoramic insight analysis of the entire factory's operational status. Additionally, at the equipment level, Siemens plans to launch a Copilot for workshop workers for operational management, expected to be officially released by the end of 2025. The product aims to empower workshop operators, equipment maintenance technicians, and maintenance engineers by enabling device data queries, fault diagnosis, and solution acquisition through natural language interaction, significantly enhancing work efficiency. It features convenient device-level deployment capabilities, providing equipment operation guidelines and work specification guidance. In the process industry, the generative AI assistant SIMATIC eaSie supports technicians and maintenance staff in quickly accessing relevant factory and equipment data through text chat or voice conversation, thereby effectively enhancing the reliability and safety of control room remote monitoring and on-site operation maintenance.

Service-Oriented Copilot: Senseye's Maintenance Copilot provides expert-level equipment diagnostic services for maintenance teams. Recently, the scope of this solution has expanded beyond traditional predictive maintenance, covering the entire lifecycle of equipment maintenance and supporting the full process management from reactive repairs to predictive and preventive maintenance. Pilot implementation data shows that this solution can reduce average reactive maintenance time by 25%.

Closing the Skills Gap in Manufacturing

Siemens Industrial Copilot has achieved significant success in both Siemens' own factories and global customer projects. Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering is promoting the technology worldwide, with engineers reporting a notable improvement in code quality and development efficiency. Meanwhile, at Siemens' factory in Bad Neustadt, Germany, the Insights Hub Production Copilot has revolutionized manufacturing operations by integrating scattered data and transforming it into actionable decision-making insights.

"In the factory setting, our industrial AI intelligent body can connect different functional collaborative assistants, achieving automated operation of the industrial full value chain workflow. This innovative model establishes a standardized application system, ensuring that regardless of the practitioner's technical proficiency or experience level, they can easily apply industrial AI technology. Brehm states, 'We look forward to a future where industrial AI intelligent bodies collaborate seamlessly with workers, taking over routine workflow tasks autonomously, thereby freeing up human resources to focus on innovation and development, creative design, and tackling complex challenges.'"
