Welding operations are prevalent in industries such as industrial production, construction, and transportation. As a fire-based activity, welding involves high temperatures, extreme heat, flammability, and splashes. If safety precautions are not properly implemented during operation, it can easily lead to fires, explosions, and other accidents, resulting in minor property damage at best and severe injuries or fatalities at worst. Therefore, it is crucial to adhere to the safety底线 of production at all times.
What potential dangers are associated with welding operations?
Potential Hazards of Welding Operations
1
Heat conduction from welding leads to fire accident
Due to the fact that welding involves melting metals with an electric arc, and temperatures during the process can exceed 6,000°C, it's easy for flammable materials at the other end of the weld to ignite.
2
High-altitude falls and spatter from welding slag
During welding operations, fiery sparks are scattered everywhere. These small sparks are at a high temperature and can cause a fire when they land on flammable materials; they can also likely trigger an explosion upon contact with explosive gases.
3
Not easy to detect fire outbreaks
Typical welding and cutting operations are not on the same plane as the ignition point, making it difficult to detect a fire in its early stages.
4
Fire Caused by Short Circuit Ignites Combustible Material
Welding machine power cords are frequently dragged and worn during operation, which can easily lead to wire damage and increase the risk of short circuits, potentially igniting flammable materials nearby.
Fire Safety Experiment: Welding Spatter Temperatures Reach Up to 2,472°F
To measure the temperature of molten beads produced by welding operations, after the testers ensured safety measures were in place, they placed the temperature sensor of the thermometer at the spot where molten beads were splashing from the welding. The temperature of the pouring molten beads soared exponentially, quickly exceeding 1000°C, reaching a high of 1372°C, which is far above the ignition points of cardboard boxes, polyurethane foam boards, and various other materials.
Studies have proven that the welding process generates molten beads at high temperatures, which are highly susceptible to igniting surrounding flammable materials.

Article 21 of the "Fire Protection Law of the People's Republic of China" stipulates: Where open flame operations are required due to special circumstances such as construction, prior approval procedures must be followed in accordance with regulations, and corresponding fire safety measures shall be taken; workers shall comply with fire safety regulations.
Employees performing welding, gas welding, and other fire hazard operations, as well as those operating automatic fire protection systems, must be certified and adhere to fire safety operation procedures.
Article 63 of the Fire Prevention Law of the People's Republic of China stipulates: Violating regulations by using open flames for work, or smoking or using open flames in places with fire or explosion hazards, may result in a warning or a fine of less than 500 yuan. In serious cases, a detention of up to five days may be imposed.
Article 64 of the "Fire Prevention Law of the People's Republic of China" stipulates: If one orders or coerces others to violate fire safety regulations and engage in dangerous activities, and such actions do not constitute a crime, the offender shall be sentenced to detention of ten to fifteen days, and may also be fined not more than 500 yuan; for less serious cases, a warning or a fine of not more than 500 yuan may be imposed.
