As the prevalence of steel structure buildings increases, they are becoming more integrated into our daily lives, appearing in facilities such as factories, airport terminals, stadiums, and supermarkets. The primary reason for this is the numerous advantages of steel structures, including large spans, light self-weight, and prefabrication capabilities. Due to the non-flammable nature of steel, the fire protection and insulation of steel structures were once overlooked. According to domestic and international reports and tests by professional institutions, the fire resistance of steel structures is significantly lower than that of brick and stone or reinforced concrete structures. The mechanical properties of steel are a function of temperature, with mechanical strength decreasing as temperature rises. The temperature at which steel loses its load-bearing capacity is defined as the critical failure temperature; typically, the critical failure temperature for construction-grade steel is 540°C. For building fires, temperatures usually range between 800-1200°C. Therefore, in the event of a fire, the collapse time of steel can be as short as 15 minutes, posing a threat to human life safety. As a result, fire protection for steel has become a critical issue, leading to the development of fire-resistant coatings for steel structures.

Exposure to the steel components can reach the critical temperature in just minutes, leading to distortion, deformation, and collapse under the combined forces of longitudinal pressure and lateral tension. This illustrates the extreme danger of unprotected steel structures in the event of a fire.

Fire-resistant coating for steel structuresThis is a coating applied to the surface of steel structural buildings or structures, which serves a certain decorative function. In the event of a fire, it can rapidly expand to form a fire-resistant and insulating protective layer, thereby meeting the fire safety requirements of architectural design standards.
