Cold and hot processing of Inconel 718:
The suitable hot working temperature for the alloy is between 1120-900°C. The cooling method can be water quenching or other rapid cooling methods. After hot working, it is necessary to anneal promptly to ensure excellent properties. During hot working, the material should be heated to the upper limit of the processing temperature. To ensure plasticity during processing, the final processing temperature when the deformation reaches 20% should not be lower than 960°C. Cold working should be performed after solution treatment. The rate of work hardening is greater than that of austenitic stainless steel, so the processing equipment should be adjusted accordingly, and there should be an intermediate annealing process during the cold working.
Cold and heat treatment of Inconel 718:
Different solid solution and aging treatment processes yield varied material properties. Due to the lower diffusion rate of the γ" phase, prolonged aging treatment can significantly enhance the alloy's mechanical properties.
Cold grinding of Inconel 718:
The oxides near the weld seam of the workpiece are harder to remove than stainless steel, requiring fine sandpaper to grind them, and also to remove the oxides or perform salt bath pretreatment before acid cleaning in a mixture of HNO3 and HF.
