What's the Difference Between Screen Printing and Photography in Advertising Production? Advertisements and promotional visuals are quite common in our daily lives. Today, Han Feng Advertising Company shares with you the differences between screen printing and photography in advertising production.

Common street-side commercial advertisements, such as large outdoor billboard advertisements, large billboard signs along highways, bus stop poster ads, and large poster promotions in shopping malls, etc., which are随处可见 in our daily lives, often involve digital printing or photo-realistic printing. Ad agencies typically produce these visuals using spray painting machines or photo-realistic printers.

However, during the production of these advertisement visuals, we often notice a price difference between large format printing and photo-realism, and the price discrepancy is quite significant. What is the reason for this?

Digital prints are produced by a printing machine and are commonly used for outdoor advertising, such as billboards. They can also be used for indoor advertising, like background images in rooms and promotional displays. Typically, digital prints use oil-based or solvent-based inks, offering waterproof, UV-resistant properties, and the images maintain their quality over time. Compared to photo-realistic prints, they are more affordable. However, the drawback is that the inks used have a strong odor and the image resolution is not as high, making them better suited for viewing from a distance.

For photography, we commonly use photo printers as our output devices. When it comes to photography, it can be divided into two main categories: indoor and outdoor photography. Compared to large format printing, photography offers higher precision and superior image quality.

Indoor photo prints typically use water-based inks, which are environmentally friendly and odorless. However, their drawback is that they are not waterproof, leading to issues such as color fading and quick discoloration, which is why many advertisers opt for lamination on indoor photo printers to enhance the longevity of the prints. This is especially common with items like roll-up banners and X-stands.

Outdoor photo printers are also part of the mix. The main difference between indoor and outdoor photo printers often lies in the inks they use.

Outdoor Photography: Typically,写真machines use solvent-based inks, which are more environmentally friendly than oil-based inks, lacking the strong odor of oil-based inks yet retaining their performance. They offer waterproof and UV protection, making them suitable for outdoor advertising. However, the drawback is that they are more expensive than spray painting, such as solvent-based inks being more costly than water-based inks, and related outdoor materials are also more expensive than indoor ones. But outdoor photography has a wider range of applicable materials. For instance, common applications include studio large-format photography, portrait photography, outdoor vehicle wraps, billboards, and more.
