High-pressure gas storage tanks, metallic containers used for storing gas fuels. The storage pressure ranges from 0.8 to 2 MPa, even higher, hence the name. The tank's volume is fixed, and the storage capacity is adjusted according to the storage pressure. Available in cylindrical and spherical shapes, spherical tanks are generally used for larger storage capacities.
The cylindrical or spherical tanks are welded from high-quality steel plates. Spherical tanks consume less steel and distribute forces evenly. However, the processing, installation, and welding of spherical tanks are more difficult than those of cylindrical tanks, so they are generally used only in situations with higher storage gas pressure. The ends of cylindrical tanks are capped with elliptical or hemispherical heads. When using an elliptical head, the ratio of the major to the minor axis can be 2:1 to match the strength of the head with the tank body.
