On December 12, 2023, Australia released the 2023 Revision of the Environmental Management (Registration) of Industrial Chemicals, adding various persistent organic pollutants (POPs) to Tables 6 and 7, and restricting their use. The new restrictions will take effect on July 1, 2024, and July 1, 2025, respectively. The updated requirements will largely align with the EU's POPs regulations, with the exception of certain requirements.
Three POPs substances—hexabromobiphenyls, hexachlorobutadiene, and polychlorinated naphthalenes—are now included in the Schedule 7 of this management system.
