Semiconductor electric heat tracing, also known as self-limiting temperature electric heat tracing, is a type of heat tracing product that can automatically regulate its own temperature. Semiconductor electric heat tracing is widely used in the field of freeze protection and insulation for industrial pipelines and equipment, thanks to its advantages such as automatic temperature control, safety and reliability, energy saving and environmental protection, easy installation, and broad application range.

The working principle of semiconductor electric heating cables:

Primarily based on the PTC effect, between the two parallel copper busbars, there are semiconductor polymer heating cores responsible for the heating function. Once the power is connected, the semiconductor material heats up upon electrical conduction, compensating for the heat loss of the pipes through installation on the heated object. As the temperature rises, the resistance of the semiconductor material increases, reducing the current and thus decreasing heat production; conversely, when the temperature drops, the resistance decreases, the current increases, and more heat is produced. This way, the semiconductor electric heating tape can automatically regulate its heating power, maintaining stability within a certain temperature range.

Thermal Cable Structure of Semiconductor Heating Elements:

Conductive Copper Busbars: Serving as the transmission path for current.

Semiconductor Polymer Heating Core: It serves as a heating element, with its resistance varying with temperature.

Insulation Layer: Wrapped around the heating core, it serves as an insulating and protective function.

Metal shielding layer: Provides additional mechanical protection and electromagnetic shielding.

The outer sheath layer: Located on the exterior, it protects the entire electric heating tape from erosion and damage by external environments.

Features of semiconductor electric trace heating:

1. Automatic Temperature Control: The semiconductor electric heating tape can automatically adjust its heating power based on the ambient temperature, eliminating the need for an additional temperature controller, thereby simplifying system design and installation. This is achieved through the PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) effect of semiconductor materials, where the resistance of the semiconductor material decreases and the current increases when the ambient temperature is below the set value, producing more heat. Conversely, when the ambient temperature is above the set value, the resistance increases and the current decreases, reducing heat production to maintain stable temperature.

2. Safety and Reliability: Thanks to its ability to automatically adjust power, the semiconductor electric trace heating does not overheat, ensuring the system's safety and reliability. Even when used in overlapping, it does not cause hotspots or burnouts.

3. Energy-saving and Environmental Protection: Semiconductor electric tracing heating can automatically adjust the heating power as needed, avoiding energy waste and also reducing environmental pollution.

4. Easy Installation: The semiconductor electric tracing heater has a simple structure and is easy to install, allowing it to be directly wrapped around pipes or equipment without the need for additional supports or fastening devices. Moreover, it can be cut to any working length on-site to match the actual laying length of the pipes.

5. Wide Application Range: Semi-conductor electric tracing heating is suitable for frost prevention and insulation of various pipelines and equipment, such as fire hoses, water supply pipes, oil pipelines, and chemical pipelines. Additionally, it can be used for heating highways, ramps, pedestrian crossings, eaves, and floors, among others.
