After 20 years of development, although there has been significant progress in new wall material products, they have yet to reach the strategic goals for wall renovation set by our country. "Encouraging the use of non-toxic and harmless solid wastes such as coal gangue, fly ash, construction waste soil, and river淤泥 for the development and production of new wall materials, and promoting the priority development of self-insulating wall materials, gradually achieving resource recycling, clean production, and building energy conservation" is the approach we should follow in the development of new wall materials.
The development of new building materials must promote resource recycling. Utilizing solid waste resources is a long-term, systematic project. The advancement of new wall materials should be closely centered around this theme. By implementing reduction, reuse, and resourceization activities in the production, distribution, and consumption processes, we aim to develop a circular economy. Actively utilize and absorb various stable and safe solid waste materials, such as fully utilizing the residual calorific value of waste coal gangue, slag, and fly ash as raw materials, blending them with construction waste, urban waste, sludge from wastewater treatment plants, and riverbed silt to produce sintered products. Employ flue gas desulfurization technology to reduce harmful gas emissions and use the byproduct desulfurized gypsum in the production of bricks and panels. Through continuous reuse, we strive to minimize the total amount of waste discharged, achieving economic, environmental, and social benefits.
The development of new wall materials must align with the trends in the construction industry. Currently, China is vigorously promoting the industrialization of residential construction. Standardization of residential buildings, industrial production of components, and modular construction and installation are the core of residential industrialization. Therefore, the development of new wall materials must challenge the existing management models and construction methods, and promote the intensive development of wall material production enterprises. When developing new wall materials, in addition to considering strength requirements, factors such as thermal conductivity, durability, drying shrinkage, fire resistance, water resistance, sound insulation, and impact resistance must also be taken into account. This is to adapt the transformation of materials to changes in the building structural system, and to develop new products that improve labor productivity, engineering quality, and architectural functions according to local conditions.
The development of new building materials must ensure energy efficiency in construction. The continuously updated and improved energy-saving standards for buildings present new requirements and directions for the quality and characteristics of wall materials. Therefore, in addition to developing new wall materials with self-insulating properties, it is necessary to further consider the development of factory-produced exterior components with excellent thermal insulation properties. This will not only provide strong material support for energy efficiency in buildings but also achieve an overall improvement in the production level of the new wall material industry. Consequently, it will enable the elimination of outdated production processes and equipment, enhance labor productivity, improve project quality, and enhance the functionality of buildings.
Four, the development of new building materials must tap into the rural market. Over the past decade, rural residential construction in our country has accounted for nearly half of the total new residential construction. The vast space of rural residential construction presents an opportunity for the development of the new wall material industry. The current rural housing construction merely follows the traditional extensive model, with a lack of awareness of energy conservation, material conservation, and environmental protection. Therefore, reforming the traditional rural concepts, starting from the potentially exploitable resources in rural areas such as straw, researching and developing new wall materials suitable for rural dwellings, and exploring the application market for new wall materials in rural areas will enable new wall material enterprises to achieve a qualitative leap.
