What are the safety requirements for manufacturing and using flammable materials?

When manufacturing and using flammable materials, it is generally important to note the following:

In buildings where flammable materials are manufactured or used, electrical equipment must be explosion-proof. Electrical installations, electric heating equipment, wiring, and safety devices must all comply with fire safety requirements. Such buildings should generally have at least two exits, and doors and windows should open outward.

2. The quantity of flammable materials stored in workshops and laboratories must not exceed a 24-hour supply, and they must not be placed in corridors or near heat sources or areas exposed to direct sunlight.

When manufacturing or using flammable liquids and combustible gases, the use of open flame for distillation or heating is prohibited. Instead, water bath or steam bath should be employed. When using an oil bath, glassware should not be used as the bath pot; the temperature of the oil should be regularly measured during operation, and the oil temperature should not approach the flash point.

4. Piping for flammable and combustible gases and liquids must not exhibit any leakage, dripping, or spilling. Use soap and water to check for gas leaks and strictly prohibit using open flames for testing. Gas cylinders must not be placed near heat sources or exposed to direct sunlight. When using oxygen, it is forbidden to come into contact with oils.

5. Strong oxidizers can release oxygen upon decomposition. When heating, friction, or crushing such substances, they must not come into contact or be mixed with combustible materials. Items soaked in flammable liquids should not be placed in an oven for drying.

6. Residuals of flammable materials (such as sodium, white phosphorus, carbon disulfide, etc.) must not be disposed of in trash bins, septic tanks, or sewers. They should be placed in sealed containers or disposed of properly. Rags, cotton, and paper沾有grease should be stored in covered metal containers and not be discarded or left lying around to prevent spontaneous combustion.

After production or experimentation, the work area must be cleaned up, valves for flammable gases and liquids must be closed, hazardous materials must be inventoried and securely sealed, used containers must be washed, power sources must be disconnected, and doors and windows must be closed. Only after a thorough inspection and confirmation of safety may you leave the area.

8. Facilities manufacturing or using flammable materials, such as workshops and laboratories, should be constructed from fire-resistant materials and typically should have no fewer than two exits, with doors and windows opening outward. Appropriate locations inside and outside the building should be equipped with fire extinguishing tools, such as carbon dioxide dry powder extinguishers and sandboxes.
