Non-metallic compensators are used to prevent pipeline movement due to expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes. Fixed supports must be installed on the pipeline to maintain the overall position of the pipe. On the other hand, the stress generated in the pipeline upon heating or cooling far exceeds the allowable stress of steel pipes and joints. Any fixed support or structure is unable to prevent pipeline expansion and contraction. Only the use of appropriate non-metallic compensator devices to eliminate stress can ensure the safe operation of the pipeline system.
