Defoamers are typically liquid blends, categorized into three main types: mineral oil, silicone, and polyether. Mineral oil defoamers usually consist of carriers and active agents. Carriers are substances with low surface tension, serving to carry and dilute the defoamer, with water and fatty alcohols commonly used as carriers; active agents are responsible for controlling and eliminating foam, with waxes, fatty acylamides, and fats often employed. Silicone defoamers generally include polydimethylsiloxane, etc. They have poor solubility, exhibit rapid defoaming and good bubble inhibition at room temperature, but can separate at high temperatures, leading to slower defoaming and poorer bubble inhibition.
