Airport Foldable and Fragile Pole Application Scope: Support structures for all navigational aids within the runway obstruction and restriction surfaces.
Fragile and brittle items — objects that may break (shatter), bend, or yield under specified impact forces, thus posing a lesser hazard to aircraft as lightweight objects.
Fragility
Various visual and non-visual navigation facilities at airports (such as approach lighting towers, meteorological equipment, radio navigation equipment, etc.) are generally located near runways, taxiways, and aprons. If an aircraft in takeoff or landing ground operations were to collide with them unexpectedly, it could pose a hazard. All such equipment and their supports must be collapsible and installed as low as possible to ensure that collisions do not lead to aircraft control loss. Collapsibility can be achieved through various design concepts, such as using lightweight, easily collapsible, and brittle materials, components, and connectors, to ensure that collapsible objects break, bend, or yield upon impact.
Easy-bend and fragile pole structures (hereinafter referred to as "easy-bend poles") are support structures made in single-pole, tower frame, and other configurations, utilizing lightweight fragile materials and easy-bend structures.
Conditions for bending of aircraft foldable and fragile poles
For aircraft parts that may experience a collision with an aircraft that cannot take off or land, the bendable rods must be designed to bend and break upon impact from an aircraft weighing 3,000 kg and traveling at 140 km/h. For aircraft parts that may collide with an aircraft that cannot glide on the ground, the bendable rods must also bend and break upon impact from an aircraft weighing 3,000 kg and traveling at 50 km/h. The force exerted by the bendable rods on the aircraft during a collision should not exceed 45 KN; the energy transferred to the aircraft by the bendable rods should not exceed 55 KJ.
