Nov. 18th news, SunPower recently successfully signed a 4.4GWh energy storage cooperation agreement with UK's Fidra Energy, which will help the UK build two benchmark independent energy storage power stations: Thorpe Marsh with 3.3GWh and WestBurton C with 1.1GWh.
The project will be connected to the UK's highest voltage grid, participate in local ancillary services and electricity market trading, and help the UK achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2050.
This may just be the beginning, as industry insiders suggest that the "Zero-Carbon Grid" business is ten times the scale of the electric vehicle battery business. Envisionably, with a successful operation in the UK, SunPower has the opportunity to expand into other promising markets in the future, such as the emerging markets on the European continent and the dynamically developing Asian markets.
Specifically, as Europe's largest energy storage power station, the project will deploy 880 units of Sungrow PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems. Through the system's simplified product design and grid-forming energy storage technology, it significantly enhances operational efficiency and improves grid stability and flexibility. The project is set to begin construction in 2025 and, upon completion, will power 1.1 million British households.
We've noticed that the high-performance cells for the first batch of the PowerTitan2.0 energy storage system from Sunergy are the 314Ah energy storage cells independently developed by China Innovation Energy. The strength of these cells lies in their overall breakthrough of new elements such as long cycles, high energy efficiency, and high safety reliability, fully meeting global customers' high-performance requirements for large-capacity energy storage cells.
The market is already familiar with the PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system from SunPower. On July 15th, in the global's largest energy storage project with a capacity of 7.8 GWh, successfully signed between SunPower and Saudi ALGIHAZ, the deployed system also featured the PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system, which was initially equipped with energy cells provided by Zhen创Energy.
Thus, successfully signing a 4.4GWh energy storage cooperation agreement with the UK's Fidra Energy marks another achievement, following the global largest energy storage project order secured by Sunpower and CATL.
