Dolomite, primarily composed of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, is a significant calcium-magnesium resource on Earth. It is mainly categorized into iron dolomite and manganese dolomite, which slowly effervesce when exposed to cold dilute hydrochloric acid. Some dolomites emit an orange-red light under cathode ray irradiation. With the advancement of modern science and technology, dolomite, thanks to the grinding principle of powder mills, is a non-metallic mineral resource that can be extensively developed and utilized, making it an economically valuable non-metallic mineral resource. 1. Magnesium Smelting Industry: Raw dolomite with a particle size of 30-120mm is an essential raw material for producing magnesium metal. In China, the smelting of magnesium metal typically employs the silicothermic reduction method, with the yield of magnesium being consistent with the activity of calcined dolomite; 2. Ironmaking Blast Furnace Clogging Material: 0-30mm dolomite, when calcined and whitened, can be used as ironmaking blast furnace iron water clogging material. The sales price is approximately 1000 yuan per ton, with good prospects; 3. Magnesium Carbonate Production: The production of magnesium carbonate requires dolomite with the following chemical composition (%): MgO>18, CaO>29, SiO2<4, and no specific requirements for K2O, Na2O, or acid-insoluble matter content; 4. Magnesium Oxide Production: A new process for extracting magnesium oxide from dolomite, known as the dolomite recycling process, has been developed domestically. Additionally, the production technology and methods for preparing special silicon steel grade magnesium oxide using dolomite as the main raw material have also been developed; 5. Magnesium Sulfate Production: Magnesium sulfate is produced using dolomite, and byproducts such as CaSO4·H2O are also obtained, which can be used to produce magnesium sulfate crystals (MgSO4·7H2O); 6. Magnesium Hydroxide Production: Magnesium hydroxide can be produced by the ammoniation method or by acid decomposition of dolomite; 7. Glass Production: Dolomite and limestone are the third-largest components in glass raw materials, after silica sand and soda ash. The introduction of dolomite's magnesium oxide can further reduce costs and enhance the chemical stability and mechanical strength of the product; 8. Ceramics Field: Dolomite is used in raw materials and glazes to lower the firing temperature of the body, promote the dissolution of quartz, and facilitate the formation of mullite; 9. Environmental Protection Field: Dolomite powder can be used to improve the飞扬 of coal mine dust and as a filter aid in water treatment.
