On the side of Zhangxi Creek in Yinzhou District, Li Chao encountered two salamanders slowly crawling at the bottom of the clear water, but since they were in deep water far from the shore, he couldn't capture them. Last Thursday noon, unable to forget about them, Li Chao returned to the spot and was delighted to find the salamanders in the shallow waters, presumably basking in the sun. He then lay by the creek and photographed them for a while. To facilitate consultation with experts later, he also took pictures of their abdominal features.
The next noon, the journalist and Li Chao arrived at the riverbank together. After a difficult search, the experienced Li Chao found another one. Following his finger, the journalist saw a brown salamander slowly moving beneath the water, about a dozen centimeters long, looking extremely like a miniature crocodile. Its color was very similar to the color of the stones at the bottom of the water, making it hard to notice if not paying close attention. Soon, nearby, we found another one, which appeared slightly smaller in size.
After waiting for a long time, a salamander swam close to the shore, allowing us to seize the opportunity to take a few photos. But it quickly swam away to a distance, vanishing among the crevices and aquatic plants.
