Common Applications of Clutch Bearings
The clutch bearing is a critical component, situated between the input shaft and the drive motor. It enables equipment to start and stop quickly and conveniently. The clutch bearing is primarily used as a one-way free wheel in another rotational direction. It is widely applied in fields such as aerospace, indexing, agriculture, and industrial metalworking. If the driven shaft rotates rapidly, the clutch bearing will disconnect the connection between the drive shaft and the driven shaft. There are different types of clutch bearings, including roller ramps, wedge styles, wedge blocks, enclosed springs, and others. A clutch bearing is the actual driving part that allows rotating components to spin rapidly. When the drive speed exceeds the speed of the driven component, it provides the driving force for engagement. This type of clutch bearing is extremely sturdy and powerful. Under the assistance of the transmission fluid, the torque converter transmits the engine's rotation to the transmission. The design of the torque converter is manufactured by placing the reactor between the turbine, pump, and other components. Inside the reactor, there is a one-way clutch bearing connected to the center shaft. This type of clutch bearing is crucial in the torque converter as the movement rotating from the turbine is much faster compared to the turbine itself. The fluid leaving the turbine flows towards the turbine and the reactor, reversing its direction from that of the engine pump.
Automotive transmission requires the clutch bearing to easily connect and disconnect gears. The wedge clutch bearing is excellent, allowing gears to transition to heavier loads without issue. When disconnecting another gear, it needs to switch to a clutch bearing for synchronous engagement. If no prolonged reaction force is needed, the clutch bearing releases, making a coordinated engagement event possible.
