Soluble grade CMC sodium carboxymethyl cellulose has good solubility; it can be fully dissolved in water within minutes without stirring and starts to thicken after 20-30 minutes. It is convenient to use and easy to handle. Typically, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose undergoes swelling before dissolving in water, causing the swollen powder particles to stick together and form a tough film around the powder, which prevents water from penetrating and leads to clumping, making it difficult to disperse.
To ensure that sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) dissolves quickly without forming lumps, two approaches are taken. First, introduce hydrophilic structures within the intermolecular structure of the cellulose molecules, and add appropriate surfactants without altering the CMC properties, thereby enabling quick dissolution, achieving a quick-dissolving effect. Second, produce granular quick-dissolving grade CMC sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, as this type of CMC is granular with many voids that allow water to easily penetrate, making it easy to disperse in water without clumping and can dissolve quickly, achieving the quick-dissolving effect in a short time.
