The current exhaust silencers are mostly made of stainless steel. Stainless steel silencers are a type of silencer that is entirely made of stainless steel or has stainless steel piping or housing. Due to reasons such as complex structure, heavy weight, high-temperature oxidation absorption material, high-speed airflow impact on absorption material, and water vapor penetration into absorption material, silencers often experience frequent maintenance, poor noise reduction performance, and pipe blockages.

The primary reason for insufficient diesel engine power due to exhaust system factors in the workplace is pipe blockage. The main causes of pipe blockage are as follows: internal components of the muffler fall off, become damaged, move, and block the exhaust passage; catalytic converters, particulate filters, etc., become blocked due to excessive dirt or damage; and the exhaust brake valve is in a closed or semi-closed state.

Diesel engine exhaust brake systems typically employ the method of closing the engine's exhaust passage, causing the engine's piston to experience a reverse pressure during the exhaust stroke. This, in turn, stops the engine's operation, thereby creating a braking effect and achieving the goal of controlling vehicle speed.

If the exhaust brake system malfunctions, causing the exhaust brake butterfly valve to remain constantly closed or semi-closed, the vehicle will exhibit a noticeable lack of power. After the exhaust system is blocked, the cause should be identified as soon as possible to avoid other severe issues like diesel engine piston seizure.

For turbocharged diesel engines, remove the exhaust system piping after the turbine outlet. For non-turbocharged diesel engines, remove the exhaust system piping after the exhaust manifold. Then start the diesel engine for a short run (note to direct the exhaust outlet outside to prevent damage to other components). If the diesel engine operates normally, it generally indicates a blockage in the exhaust system. Check the relevant components accordingly to further confirm the location of the fault.
