One step in the exterior thermal insulation construction process is the treatment of the outer wall surface. Do not proceed with the thermal insulation construction if the outer wall surface has not been properly treated. Our exterior walls typically come in two forms: the first is a more traditional and common reinforced concrete wall, and the second is a brick wall. For these different types of exterior walls, follow the steps below for treatment.
① Sealing the openings. Prior to applying exterior wall insulation, the first step is to seal all openings on the exterior facade. For instance, bolt holes through concrete walls should be filled with foam sealant and then coated with waterproof paint. Any other openings on the exterior wall should be sealed with specified materials. Construction openings should be filled with concrete, and brick openings should be sealed promptly. Ensure that there are no openings on the entire facade.
② Wall plastering treatment. Since we apply thermal insulation boards to the exterior walls, it is essential to ensure the flatness of the wall surface, hence the need for plastering. In fact, when plastering, I recommend using waterproof mortar for application. For concrete wall surfaces, adding a certain amount of adhesive to the waterproof mortar can enhance its bonding strength. For brick walls, I suggest applying plaster after hanging a wire mesh on the surface. If there are both brick and concrete walls, a wire mesh must be hung at the junction before plastering. The requirement is for the entire exterior facade to have plaster walls that meet the standards for both verticality and flatness.
