Volumetric heat exchangers utilize alternating flow of cold and hot fluids over the surface of a heat storage medium (filler) within a storage chamber to exchange heat. In shell-and-tube volumetric heat exchangers, the cold and hot fluids are separated by solid walls and heat exchange occurs across these walls, hence also known as surface heat exchangers.
In the internal hot water supply of buildings, the traditional volumetric heat exchanger is a widely used heat exchange equipment with a long service life.
Volumetric heat exchangers combine heat exchange and storage functions. The upper part of the heat exchange tube bundle in a volumetric heat exchanger is the storage section, which belongs to the same temperature hot water zone, with a large storage capacity, capable of adapting to changes in hourly heat consumption. It can provide a larger storage and regulation volume for hot water supply systems with uneven water usage, to accommodate changes in water load; the outlet water temperature is stable, ensuring safe and reliable water supply.
