High molecular weight polyethylene is a high polymer compound that is difficult to process, yet boasts strong wear resistance and self-lubricating properties. It has high strength, stable chemical properties, and excellent resistance to aging. Currently, there are two processing techniques available: molding and extrusion. When distinguishing between genuine and counterfeit molded high molecular weight polyethylene boards, one must pay close attention to these characteristics:
The characteristics of molding include:不受the molecular weight of high-density polyethylene(HDPE)influence, even high molecular weight HDPE with a relatively high molecular weight can be processed; the drawback is the low production efficiency, with fixed mold sizes such as 1500mm*3000mm, 2100mm*3000mm, 1500mm*4000mm, and thicknesses ranging from 8mm to 300mm, with a thickness tolerance of ±1mm. The advantages are high toughness, high tensile strength, good impact resistance, low friction coefficient, and good fluidity. Third-party testing indicates that some data exceed extrusion processes. However, for the molding and processing of high molecular weight HDPE, due to its high molecular weight and poor fluidity, and with other molding methods still not fully mature, molding is primarily used for producing high molecular weight HDPE products. Molding is a method similar to that used in processing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), converting powdered high molecular weight HDPE into sheets. Because of the high molecular weight of HDPE, there is a significant degree of intermolecular entanglement and penetration in the molecular space during the molding process, compared to other engineering plastics. This results in a larger coefficient of thermal expansion and contraction. Additionally, the manual operation in the production process, with its strong randomness, and the finished product dimensions, which are affected by sintering temperature, sintering time, type and ratio of additives, and the type of coupling agent, all contribute to this.
Extruded high molecular weight polyethylene boards feature low production costs, high production capacity, a smooth surface, even thickness, low material waste, and are suitable for producing boards with thicknesses of 1mm to 30mm.
